2019 Toyota Prado TX-L from China: $29,174 EXW and Why Iraq and East Africa Keep Asking for It

A 2019 Prado TX-L with 64,000 km, priced at $29,174 EXW out of China against a $27,142 benchmark. Why this unit is priced above reference, when that is still the right buy for a dealer in Erbil, Nairobi or Addis, and the four checks to run before you wire a deposit.

The car dealers ask for by name

Most of our inbound messages from Iraq, Kurdistan and East Africa do not ask “what do you have”. They ask for a Prado. A 2018 to 2020 TX-L, petrol, under 80,000 km, with a full photo set. The Land Cruiser Prado is the one vehicle where a dealer in Erbil, Nairobi or Addis Ababa already knows the resale price before we quote, because the same body is on every second street.

That is also why the price gap on a Prado is narrower than on almost anything else we export. Every exporter knows this car sells itself.

The unit and the number

A 2019 Prado TX-L Premium, 64,000 km, petrol, automatic, four-wheel drive, priced at $29,174 EXW out of China. Our benchmark from comparable listings sits at $27,142, so this unit is about 7% above reference. We show that number on purpose. A dealer who only sees “cheap” listings from us has no way to judge which ones are real.

Why is it above reference and still worth a look:

Mileage. Most 2019 Prados in the benchmark set carry 90,000 to 130,000 km. This one is at 64,000 km, which in Iraq or Kenya is the difference between “one careful owner” and “ex-fleet”.

Trim. TX-L Premium is the trim buyers in Kurdistan ask for: leather, sunroof, rear air conditioning, the full-size spare on the tailgate. Base TX units in the same year make up most of the low end of the benchmark.

Photo set and history. Eight real photos of this exact unit, original paint confirmed, no accident record. A dealer can send the set to a waiting buyer the same day.

Where it makes money

Kurdistan and federal Iraq. Prados move at retail well above landed cost from China, and a 2019 unit with this mileage clears customs under the age rules in both lanes. Confirm your entry point, because Erbil and Basra treat duty differently.

Kenya and Ethiopia. Kenya’s eight-year age limit makes a 2019 unit importable through 2027. Ethiopia has moved to electric-only for new import permits, so check current permit status for petrol units before quoting a buyer there.

Cambodia and Laos. The car is listed for both markets on our site. Prado demand there is real but the price ceiling is lower than in Iraq, so the margin is thinner.

Four checks before a deposit

  1. Chassis and frame photos. Ask for underbody shots. A Prado that has done real off-road work shows it there first.
  2. Service history against the odometer. 64,000 km on a 2019 is low. Low is good only if the service stamps line up with it.
  3. Full-size spare and tool kit. Missing spares are the most common “small” complaint after delivery. Confirm before loading.
  4. Fuel grade. The 2.7 petrol is tolerant, but confirm the octane requirement against your local pump grade.

Bottom line

On a Prado you are not buying a discount, you are buying the unit your buyer already wants, with the mileage and trim that let you charge full retail. This one is priced honestly above reference for the reasons above, and it will still be gone before the cheaper high-mileage units are.
