The badge does the selling
Most of our African-market inbound treats “premium compact SUV” as a niche request. It is not. A dealer in Accra or Lagos who can put a 2022 Audi on the forecourt at the same price point as a top-trim mainstream SUV sells it faster, because the badge alone moves the conversation from “what car” to “what price”. Nobody has to explain what an Audi is.
That gap between mainstream-SUV price and premium-badge price, sourced out of China, is the trade most dealers have not priced yet.
The unit and the number
A 2022 Audi Q2L 1.4TFSI 35TFSI 进取动感型 (Advance Dynamic trim), 35,000 km, petrol turbo, original paint, zero accidents, priced at $21,222 EXW out of China. Our benchmark from comparable listings sits at $34,219, so this unit sits 38% below reference.
A spread this wide is unusual enough that we show our work:
Why the gap is real, not a data error. Chinese domestic Audi pricing runs well under European and Gulf secondhand pricing for the same generation, because Audi’s China volume (FAW-Volkswagen joint venture) keeps used-market supply high and resale expectations lower than in export markets. The car is not cheaper because something is wrong with it — it is cheaper because the reference market and the source market price the same metal differently.
Condition. 35,000 km on a 2022 unit is light use for its age. Blue exterior, 1.4T engine, front-wheel drive, minor touch-up repair disclosed — not hidden, priced in.
Photo set. 12 real photos of this exact unit. A dealer can forward the set the same day a buyer asks.
Where it makes money
West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria). Premium compacts clear at a meaningful multiple of landed cost when the buyer is upgrading from a mainstream sedan, not cross-shopping against other SUVs. Confirm your import age window before you commit — some West African ports treat 2022 differently than 2021.
East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia). A 2022 Audi at this landed cost undercuts nearly every used-premium listing already on the ground, because most premium-badge stock arrives from Gulf re-export at Gulf pricing, not China-direct pricing.
Middle East wholesale. Dealers who buy in bulk for their own retail lots use spreads like this to hit a target margin band without discounting the badge.
The four checks before you wire a deposit
- Confirm the trim code. 35TFSI badges vary by market; ask for the VIN-decoded spec sheet, not just the trim name on the listing.
- Confirm registration history is clean, not just “no accident” — a car can be accident-free and still have a salvage or import-re-export flag.
- Confirm landed cost with your own freight and duty numbers. EXW is the starting line, not the finish line — a 38% spread against benchmark still needs your logistics math to know if it clears your target margin.
- Ask for current photos, not stock photos. We supply real photos of the specific VIN. If a supplier can’t, that is the question to ask before the price.
