TL;DR
- The Geely Geometry C fills a real gap: 550-600 km real-world range at a price below the BYD Han and above the Atto 3.
- It is the EV you sell to the buyer who says “I like the Atto 3 but I drive to the province twice a month.”
- Used 2022-2024 Geometry C clears Phnom Penh landed at $19,500-26,500, Hanoi at $18,500-25,000.
- Honest caveat: Geely’s ASEAN service network is real but less mature than BYD’s. This is the single biggest objection to manage.
- Customer fit: regional commuters, small-business owners covering a province, EV-confident buyers who need range insurance.
Why the Geometry C, and the gap it fills
The Atto 3 is the mass urban EV. The Han is the executive statement. Between them sits a real, underserved buyer: someone who wants EV economics but regularly drives 300-500 km in a trip.
That buyer can’t trust an Atto 3 (≈325 km real-world — province trip = range anxiety). They won’t pay Han money for a sedan they don’t need the prestige of. The Geometry C’s 550-600 km real-world range is the answer: it makes the inter-province EV trip boring instead of stressful, at a mid-market price.
Sell the Geometry C to:
- Regional commuters (capital ↔ province twice-weekly drivers).
- Small-business owners whose work covers a province (sales reps, field operators, agri-traders).
- EV-confident second-time buyers trading up from a short-range first EV.
- Buyers who wanted an Atto 3 but balked at the range when they thought through their actual driving.
Do not sell the Geometry C to:
- Pure city drivers (overspec — sell the cheaper Atto 3, keep the margin difference as goodwill).
- Buyers in regions with no Geely service presence at all (the support gap is real — be honest).
- Prestige-seekers (the Geometry C reads “smart practical,” not “arrived”).
The vehicle
Geely Geometry C — compact crossover EV, in production since 2020 (China), facelifted 2022, exported LHD.
| Spec | 2022-2024 used | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Body | 5-door crossover (4,432 mm) | Atto 3 / Corolla Cross class |
| Battery | 53.1 / 70 kWh ternary (NMC) | Note: NMC, not LFP — different care profile |
| Range (NEDC) | 550 / 620 km | Real-world ~450 / 540 km |
| Motor | 150-204 kW front | Brisker than Atto 3 |
| DC fast charge | ~100 kW (70 kWh pack) | 0-80% ~40 min |
| Drive | FWD | No AWD |
Chemistry note: unlike BYD’s LFP Blade, the Geometry C uses NMC (ternary) cells — higher energy density (hence the range) but more sensitive to heat and deep-cycling. SoH inspection matters even more here. Source the 70 kWh / 620 km variant for resale; the 53 kWh is the weaker proposition.
Landed cost math (Phnom Penh example)
2023 Geely Geometry C 620 km (70 kWh), 26,000 km, condition B+, sourced Ningbo:
| Cost line | USD |
|---|---|
| Dealer purchase (China, used) | $14,900 |
| UCarsea margin + inspection + docs | $1,300 |
| EXW China | $16,200 |
| Sea freight Shenzhen → Sihanoukville | $850 |
| Cambodia CIF | $17,050 |
| Import duty + special tax + VAT (EV preferential) | ~$5,950 |
| Clearance + inland | $560 |
| Landed Phnom Penh | ~$23,560 |
Slots cleanly between Atto 3 ($25K loaded) and Han ($39K) — but with double the usable range of the Atto 3. That range-per-dollar is the entire pitch. See Cambodia duty mechanics.
Landed cost math (Hanoi example)
| Cost line | USD |
|---|---|
| EXW China | $16,200 |
| Sea freight → Hai Phong | $720 |
| Vietnam CIF | $16,920 |
| Import duty + EV-preferential SCT 3% + VAT | ~$6,400 |
| Registration + clearance | $850 |
| Landed Hanoi | ~$24,170 |
Vietnam’s inter-province geography makes the Geometry C’s range especially relevant — Hanoi ↔ regional capital trips that kill an Atto 3’s confidence are routine for a Geometry C. Full context: Vietnam decoded.
Resale benchmarks (Q1-Q2 2026)
| Market | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phnom Penh retail | $22,000-25,000 | $24,500-27,500 | $27,000-30,500 |
| Hanoi retail | $21,500-24,500 | $24,000-27,000 | $26,500-30,000 |
| Vientiane retail | $20,500-23,500 | $23,000-26,000 | $25,500-29,000 |
2023 unit landing ~$23,560, clearing $25,500 mid-band = ~$1,940 gross. Margin profile similar to Atto 3 — thin per unit, earns through repeat dealer relationships and the range story closing sales that an Atto 3 would lose.
Battery health — NMC needs closer scrutiny
NMC chemistry degrades differently from LFP — more sensitive to heat soak and fast-charge abuse, which matters in tropical ASEAN deployment.
| SoH | Status | Action |
|---|---|---|
| ≥ 91% | Premium | No concession |
| 85-90% | Good | Standard |
| 79-84% | Fair | -12 to -18%, disclose |
| < 79% | Reject | NMC below this degrades faster — don’t import |
We hold a stricter floor (79% vs 75% for LFP cars) on Geometry C precisely because NMC degradation accelerates once it starts. Range test under load is mandatory, not optional.
Service reality — the honest objection
This is the Geometry C’s real weakness vs a BYD. Geely’s ASEAN authorized network exists (growing through the Proton/Geely Malaysia hub and country distributors) but is less dense than BYD’s in 2026:
- Capital cities (Phnom Penh, Hanoi, HCMC): Geely service reachable, parts 1-2 week routing.
- Tier-2 cities: thin — often no Geely-specific HV support.
- Wear parts: independents can handle conventional items.
- HV battery / motor: authorized-only, and the network is shallower than BYD’s.
Manage this objection directly with the buyer. The honest pitch: “The range is the best in this price class. The trade-off is service is thinner than BYD — if you’re capital-city based, fine; if you’re deep upcountry, consider a Camry instead.” Overselling Geely’s support is the fastest way to damage the relationship — see Parts & Service.
Geometry C vs the alternatives
| SKU | Landed PP | When it wins |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 Geometry C 620 | ~$23.5K | Need real range, mid budget |
| 2023 BYD Atto 3 Boost | ~$25K | City-only, want BYD service depth |
| 2023 BYD Han DM-i | ~$39K | Want presence + range, bigger budget |
| 2021 Toyota Camry HEV | ~$42K | Range + zero service risk, ICE-hybrid |
The Geometry C wins exactly one scenario — and wins it cleanly: mid-budget buyer who needs genuine 500+ km range and is capital-city-based enough to accept Geely’s thinner support. That’s a real, recurring customer in all three priority markets.
